The first and best excuse for not serving on a jury is if you are over the age of 70. All you need to do is provide proof of your legal age and you will not be
summoned for jury duty. If you are 70 or older but still want to serve you are more than welcome to sit on a jury - it is however the best jury duty excuse there
is because there is absolutely no grey area.
Another common jury duty excuse is if you are caring for senior citizens or children. It is not challenging to prove this but may require further correspondance to
verify. If you have children and are called for jury duty there is a reasonable chance that you will not have to serve on jury duty.
If you are already> performing a civic duty you are excused from jury duty - this applies to volunteer firefighters, EMT, etc.
You can be excused from jury duty if you own your own business and cannot be removed from it without causing serious financial implications. Along with the self-employed
or business-owner doctors, lawyers, nurses, and dentists may also be exempt as these responsibilities are vital to society.
Should you have a physical condition that either prevents you from getting to the courthouse or would prevent you from sitting for long periods of time you might be
excused from jury duty. Men with enlarged prostates for example may be excused from jury duty since it involves sitting for such a long period of time. A note from
your doctor will most likely be required.
